Another nine races to enjoy under the lights at Happy Valley on Wednesday evening and with just 10 meetings to go this season, there is plenty to play for in both the jockeys’ and trainers’ title races.

Moreira could gain another Hong Kong Win in feature

A number of Hong Kong’s speediest sprinters are set to dash for glory on Wednesday night, as Happy Valley stages the £200,000 Class 2 Alnwick Handicap (3:50pm).

The 12-runner race is littered with quality horses, three of whom won on their last start in the shape of CLASSIC UNICORNGOLDEN DASH and HONG KONG WIN.

That trio will be well-supported, but it looks a fiercely competitive and open race, particularly over this 5f trip on Happy Valley’s “B” Course, where the draw bias is statistically far less severe.

Winners have jumped out of all 12 gates over the last three seasons and this looks a truly fascinating contest.

STRONGER has posted the fasted 5f time of his rivals at 56.11s, winning over course and distance in great style back in February, while Joao Moreira’s mount, HONG KONG WIN, has the second best PB in the race at 56.31s.

The £200,000 on offer would of course put a smile on the face of Moreira if HONG KONG WIN could lead them home, but what the Brazilian really needs is winners, no matter how significant the race.

Moreira trails Aussie Zac Purton in the Jockeys’ Championship by four wins with just 10 meetings to go, and with both riders engaged in all nine races on Wednesday, the gap could be subject to significant change.

Purton’s hope in the big sprint is GOLDEN DASH who returns to the track after a taking win over 6f last time out.

Teetan to keep Flying aboard Genius

Elsewhere on the card, where the action gets underway at 11:45am, the Class 3 Durham Handicap (1:15pm) has attracted a good field of up and coming types.

FLYING GENIUS, who provided Ryan Moore with a winner in Hong Kong last December has been ultra-consistent, with just four finishes outside the places, and is partnered by Karis Teetan who rode a double at the Valley last Wednesday.

Much respected Champion Trainer John Moore fields METRO WARRIOR who was last seen 10 days ago finishing fourth on his debut in a hot race at Sha Tin, while Moreira is an interesting booking for Caspar Fownes’ newcomer, GREEN REIGN.

Compassion Could Star for Purton again

The Class 3 Lancashire Handicap (2:45pm), over the extended mile, features ex-Irish galloper DELIGHTFUL LAOS (formerly named Now The King).

He arrived in Hong Kong last autumn of the back of a Dundalk maiden win and scored on his first HK start in April at odds of 59/1.

He then finished fifth behind SURREALISM who seeks back-to-back wins here under jockey Blake Shinn, while the top-rated horse, GREEN LUCK, has fallen to his lowest mark since May last year and has Moreira in the saddle.

The other Class 3 on the card is the Hereford Handicap (3:15pm).

Current Trainers’ Championship leader Ricky Yiu fields last-start winner LORIZ, to be ridden by the in-form Vagner Borges, while exciting three-year-old CALIFORNIA RAD is back for more.

He boasts four places and two wins from seven starts in 2020, while COMPASSION STAR is another horse who’s been enjoying things of late, posting back-to-back Happy Valley wins under Champion Jockey Purton.
