Curragh Tips: Irish 1000 Guineas Betting Tips & Predictions (2025)

The Irish 1000 Guineas takes place at The Curragh on Sunday, and 12 talented young fillies have been declared for the race.
Following an unbeaten juvenile campaign that featured a hat-trick of Group One wins, Lake Victoria (6/5 fav in our horse racing betting) met with defeat for the first time in the English 1000 Guineas but was not beaten far into sixth place which was a highly commendable result for her.
Despite failing to win the Guineas at Newmarket, she’s the number one filly they all have to beat on Sunday afternoon.
Trainer Dermot Weld has been a dominant force in the Irish 1,000 Guineas in recent years, winning two of the last three renewals of the Irish Classic, and this season he arrives with the very hot looking filly Swelter (4/1).
Weld had gone down his annual tried and tested route with her too. Homeless Songs landed the Guineas trial at Leopardstown before winning the Guineas in 2022 and Swelter won the same event this year, accounting for the odds-on favourite Exactly, who has since finished a close fourth in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches at ParisLongchamp.
At the time of writing, the Ollie Sangster pairing of Flight (5/1) and Simmering (5/1) are both engaged, but he has warmed that only one of them will be running in the Irish Fillies Classic.
Flight was a length ahead of Simmering when the pair finished second and third in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket and both have been training well since, according to Sangster, who expects to confirm running plans within the next 48 hours.
Flight was a 28-1 shot for her seasonal comeback when only going down by a length to Desert Flower in the 1,000 Guineas, and she would be the logical choice to go for the Irish race.
Simmering was a 33/1 longshot who had already run in a Classic trial before her third-placed effort at Newmarket, but she’s unlikely to be suited by the arrival of the forecast rain over the weekend.
Donnacha O’Brien supplemented his unbeaten filly Atsila (12/1) into the Irish 1,000 Guineas at Tuesday’s entry stage.
Atsila did not make her debut until April this year when winning a small race at Bellewstown, but she stepped up markedly on that a month later to come home victorious in the Group Three Athasi Stakes at the Curragh.
It’s a well known fact that Paddy Twomey does superbly with fillies, and his season has started with 15 turf winners already at a strike-rate of 43%. That really does make you sit up and take note.
So far Twomey hasn’t quite had that all conquering Classic horse, but his City Of Memphis (14/1) could well remedy that this weekend, and she’s an each-way play.
The Irish 2000 Guineas takes place some 24 hours earlier and punters can read our big race preview here.
