ITV Racing Tips: Focus On Newbury, Market Rasen and Ripon This Saturday
The ITV cameras will bring us live coverage this week from Newbury, Market Rasen and Ripon and William Hill News preview the biggest races on a busy Saturday.
It is Super Sprint Day at Newbury, while Market Rasen host their biggest fixture of the year with the Summer Handicap Hurdle and the Summer Plate Handicap Chase being the main highlights.
Ripon also get a slice of the television pie with the 1m4f Bell-Ringer Handicap making our screens.
1.55 Newbury – 1m2f Steventon Stakes (Listed Race)
Godolphin are doubly represented here but it is the William Buick ridden AL ZANATI (NAP) that catches the eye.
The Dubawi-colt was well beaten in the Dante at York, but has shown us enough form before that to indicate that a Listed affair is well within his scope.
Trading at around 2/1 in our horse racing betting market, he’s a confident pick for win purposes.
2.10 Market Rasen – 2m½f Summer Handicap Hurdle
The Adrian Keatley-trained NEWTOWN RAMBLER has gone from strength to strength this summer and I see no reason to dessert this in-form seven-year-old now.
Now on a rating of 124, and with his jockey receiving a 5lb allowance, I can see a big each-way run taking place.
2.25 Newbury – 2m½f Handicap
Although finishing sixth in the Northumberland Vase, SHRIMP SHADY wasn’t a million miles behind the winner and is still a horse in form.
I was impressed with the manner in which he won the Chester Plate in May, and he can put up a bold show here.
2.45 Market Rasen – 2m5½f Summer Plate Handicap Chase
The Bowen’s have a superb record in the Summer Chase and I am inclined to side with the Sean Bowen ridden POUR LES FILLES (NB).
The eight-year-old was considered good enough to run in the Topham at Aintree earlier in the year, so this would represent a marked drop down in grade for him.
At odds of around 10/1 in our sports betting, the gelding is a solid each-way play.
3.02 Newbury – 6f Hackwood Stakes (Group 3)
Course and distance winner SYMBOL OF HONOUR showed us enough at Newcastle last time out to suggest that he’s crying out for this return to the turf.
The four-year-old put in a polished performance to win Haydock’s Group 2 Sandy Lane last term, so the form is certainly there in the book.
3.15 Ripon – 1m4f Ripon Bell-Ringer Handicap
Owner M J Macleod loves nothing more than a winner at his favourite course of Ripon, and PRINCE OF THE SEAS can give him another one at the Yorkshire venue.
The Sea The Stars-gelding has been right on the premises in his last two runs and he is entitled to run another big race.
3.37 Newbury – 5f Super Sprint Stakes
I’m hopeful ETIENNE can put in a saintly performance in the Super Sprint on Saturday afternoon.
The Phil Cunningham-owned grey was beaten just a short head on debut at Newmarket in June and should he settle better today, he’ll be right there in the mix.
