ITV Racing Tips: Saturday’s Best Bets From Goodwood and Sandown
ITV will have televised racing on both Saturday and Sunday this week with a total of 18 live races being screened across the weekend.
Saturday sees ITV covering five live races from Goodwood. The day’s feature race is the Group 2 Celebration Mile which carries a prize fund of £200k.
Alongside the action from Goodwood on Saturday will be four races from Sandown. Their two Group 3 races will be of significant punting interest, with the Atalanta Stakes over 1m and the 7f Solario Stakes for two-year-old runners, capturing the imagination of ITV bettors out there.
Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington takes a look through all the Saturday offerings:
1.25 Goodwood – 1m Novice Stakes (2yo)
ROKU NANA makes her racecourse debut with notable sprinting and miler bloodlines in her pedigree.
Bred by Ebonos Limited and owned by Roger’s wife until just last week, the Stay Foolish team could well have a nice filly on their hands here and she will be a decent price in our horse racing betting too.
1.40 Sandown – 7f Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (2yo)
Sired by the legendary Dubawi out of the dam Raffle Prize, FLOWER SHOW (NAP) can blossom on her debut for Godolphin.
Trained by Charlie Appleby, we all know that his two-year-olds are a force to be reckoned with first time up.
2.00 Goodwood – 7f Handicap
Course and distance winer RHOSCOLYN (NB) absolutely loves it here with some juice in the ground, and with plenty of rain predicted to fall, he’s got to be an each-way play at odds of 8/1. It’s “horses for courses” all the way for this eight-year-old.
2.15 Sandown – 1m2f Handicap
Claiming Toby Moore’s 7lb allowance, KING’S CHARTER holds a solid chance of taking the spoils in this 1m2f affair.
Last seen running in Meydan during our spring, the four-year-old will welcome this return to the turf.
2.35 Goodwood – 1m4f Handicap
With lots of rain forecast for the weekend, I can see the Ulysses-gelding CLASSICAL ALLUSION coming into his own on the soft ground.
Odds of 17/2 in our sports betting look perfect for an each-way flutter on the Balding-trained runner.
2.50 Sandown – 1m Atalanta Stakes (Group 3 Fillies & Mares)
MOON TARGET brings solid European form into the race, having finished an excellent third in the Group 1 Prix Rothschild last time out, making her the class act to beat in what is a big step down in grade for her.
3.10 Goodwood – 1m Celebration Mile Stakes (Group 2)
Rated 112, BOILING POINT looks like the answer to the conundrum that is the Celebration Mile.
Karl Burke’s charge has showed some decent form this season and ran well last time he visited Goodwood. He appears to be just finding his mark after his move last September from Roger Varian’s yard.
3.30 Sandown – 7f Solario Stakes (Group 3)
Owned by Godolphin, ROCK MONTREAL heads the betting after a dazzling debut victory at Yarmouth on 14 August.
Costing 1,000,000gns yearling, he has already been handed high-profile entries for the Champagne Stakes and the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes, so he is definitely highly regarded.
3.45 Goodwood – 1m2f Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (3yo)
Ed Walker’s TROPICAL SANDS can bring their Majesty’s some joy in ITV’s last televised race on Saturday.
Just touched off at Haydock on 7 Aug, that form should stand up well here over the same distance.
