ITV Racing Tips: Shergar Cup, Newmarket & Haydock On Busy Saturday

ITV will show nine live races on Saturday afternoon with the action coming thick and fast from Ascot, Newmarket and Haydock.

The main fixture is Shergar Cup Day at Ascot with ITV covering all six races from the venue. Throw in some decent Stakes races from Newmarket and Haydock and you have quite the afternoon of TV entertainment.

Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington marks your entire Saturday afternoon card:

1.35 Ascot – 5f Shergar Cup Dash

Course and distance scorer ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS can continue his hot streak of form with Marie Velon doing the steering.

The trailblazing French flat-racing jockey is no stranger to riding on the big stage.

1.55 Newmarket – 7f Sweet Solera Stakes

Boasting an elite pedigree, GRACEFUL SONG (NAP) is sired by the legendary stallion Dubawi and out of Tranquil Lady.

Winner of her debut run at Newmarket, she showed a sharp turn of foot to take the lead a furlong out, pulling clear in the final stages. She can kick on again for the experience.

2.10 Ascot – 2m Shergar Cup Stayers

Andrew Balding’s SHRIMP SHADY (NB) can stand up to all challengers once more in this staying event.

The four-year-old has shown a great attitude this season and Ryan Moore in the plate is a massive plus.

2.25 Haydock – 1m2f Rose Of Lancaster Stakes

SEA SCOUT may be the outsider of the field here, but he shouldn’t be underestimated given that he is now a gelding.

Well down the field in the 2025 Derby, this son of Sea The Stars showed some promise after Epsom and can be considered an each-way play.

2.45 Ascot – 1m4f Shergar Cup Challenge

ASGARD’S CAPTAIN came into his own at York around this time last season and there is every chance he will do so again this August.

Ryan Moore is an interesting booking for this ten-time winner.

3.00 Haydock – 1m Dick Hern Stakes

FALLEN ANGEL is the class act in this Listed race for fillies and mares, and you would like to think that this multiple Group 1 winner will have too many aces up her sleeve against her contemporaries today.

It’s easy to see why she is trading as an odds on shot in our horse racing betting.

3.20 Ascot – 6f Shergar Cup Sprint

At odds of 12/1 in our sports betting, I suggest taking another each-way punt on Marie Velon in this sprint.

JEL PEPPER runs for Stuart Williams for the first time on Saturday and the change of scenery will hopefully spark him up.

3.55 Ascot – 1m4f Shergar Cup Classic

Yutaka Take may be as old as the hills these days, but his immense experience can see him being the key to ROYAL POETRY’S success in this 1m4f affair.

The hold-up filly will need some smart hands to guide her through in the closing stages, and Take is very good at doing that.

4.30 Ascot – Shergar Cup Mile

Eight-year-old POPMASTER always runs a game race wherever he turns out and Ed Walker’s seven-time winner and give punters, and Luke Ferraris, a great spin.

The grey is nicely weighted and odds of 12/1 look rather generous in my opinion.
