Kevin Stott’s Blog: We could be Indestructible in the Guineas

| BY News Team

The good luck seems to be continuing, with a treble at Salisbury on Thursday. And with three rides on Saturday at Newmarket, I hope it’s not wishful thinking to want to do the same there.

They’re three nice horses with exciting seasons ahead, and I hope they will all come on for their last outings and do their best on the day.

Newmarket, Saturday

Queen Olly is first up in the Listed Chaloner Stakes (2.15pm). She’s dropping back in both trip and class here, down to six furlongs from seven in the Nell Gwyn last month. It’ll be difficult taking on the older fillies in this race but, because of the age difference, she carries a nice light weight to make up for it. She was pretty disappointing on her return, and even though she travelled nicely, she just found nothing off the bridle. A drop back in trip should help here. We can’t fault her at home, her work has been good and the horses she works with have been running well, so we hope she can bounce back and do what we know she can.

Next, in the Suffolk Stakes (3.25pm) is Great Max. He didn’t run a bad race for fourth place on his return at Newbury last month in the Spring Mile, especially considering how slow the pace was. The ground was also testing, and it should be much better at Newmarket this time. I’m looking forward to seeing how we get on in another big field handicap in better conditions where, hopefully, he can get on more of a roll.

Last, but most significantly, of the day is Indestructible in the 2000 Guineas (4.40pm). It’s madness what a big price he is and he’s so much better than the market is giving him credit for at the moment. He won the Craven really nicely over the course and distance two weeks ago, which was even more impressive considering he had been keen in a slow-run race in a small field. He wandered about a bit in front, which suggests there was more in the locker, and he took two or three furlongs to pull up. He’s got much more in the tank. Karl Burke feels there is plenty more to come from him.

The 2000 Guineas is a hot race and who knows if we’ll be good enough, but I’m confident he can run better than his odds suggest. I’m happy with our draw in nine. The favourite – Auguste Rodin – is in 12, so we are drawn with the fancied runners, which will be beneficial. Let’s see what gives!
