Kevin Stott’s Blog: An Indestructible chance in the Craven

| BY News Team

It’s been a good start to the week at Newmarket with a winner and two places over Tuesday and Wednesday.

Of course, it was frustrating to have picked the wrong horse to ride in the Nell Gwyn, but thankfully we’ve now got a great chance in the 1000 Guineas with Mammas Girl. I’m really looking forward to getting on her next time – she was so much more impressive than we had imagined and let’s see how good she is moving forwards.

Persian Dreamer’s win in the maiden on Wednesday was very exciting. She’s a lovely Calyx filly who travelled really nicely and quickened up exceptionally well. She has every reason to step forward now. I particularly liked how relaxed and professional she was – I couldn’t be happier with her. The Queen Mary might now be the main aim for her.

Newmarket, Thursday

I’ve got Indestructible (3.35pm) in the Group 3 Craven. He’s joined Karl Burke this season and should have improved further this year for being a three-year-old, having had a great two-year-old campaign. Karl is happy with him and hopeful for a really good run, so I’m really looking forward to this one. We’ll know more about his chances in the Guineas after today, so watch this space.

Finally at Newmarket I’m on Prince Maxi (4.45pm), who runs his first race here over 10 furlongs. He’s very nicely bred, by Sea The Stars and out of a well-related mare. This is a competitive-looking race with plenty of nicely bred horses, so we’re just hoping for a good first run and to see him improve for next time.

Newbury, Friday

Two-year-old Kalik is first up at Newbury (1.30pm). He’s a very well-related colt by Prince Of Lir who has plenty of size about him and is likely to improve with time. His home-work has been really good, so let’s hope for a good racecourse debut from him.

Maman Joon follows in the 2.40pm fillies’ maiden. Another first run for this filly, whose home-work has been seriously impressive. She’s been given a bit of time ahead of this, which her pedigree suggests will be beneficial for her. It’s a competitive race with 17 runners, but we’ve been delighted with her so far at home and I’m looking forward to seeing what she shows us.

Last of the day is Prince Alex (3.50pm) in the Silver Bar Handicap. It’s his first run for Tom Dascombe after leaving Johnny Murtagh. I rode work on him about 10 days ago and was really pleased with him. There’s more rain due at Newbury which should suit him as he won’t mind a bit of juice in the ground. Having been a reliable sort aged three and four, he’s lost his way a bit in recent years so we are hoping that a change of scene will sweeten him up a bit and get the best from him.
