Lucinda Russell’s William Hill blog: Your Own Story has his chance in the Eider

William Hill ambassador Lucinda Russell previews her trio of weekend runners, including nice outside chances in the Eider and feature at Kempton.

William Hill are Best Odds Guaranteed from 8am daily across all UK and Irish racing.

Saturday, Newcastle

We head to Newcastle with Your Own Story in the Eider (2.10pm) and I have to say that I think he’s got a lovely chance. He’s a really strong stayer and so the test that the Eider presents over the trip will be right up his street. Although he was beaten a long way in the Welsh National on his last start, I think he ran better than the form suggests, although it was hard to see in all that fog! He hasn’t won for a while, but we hope he can put his best foot forward.

Bois Guillbert is an interesting runner for us as he makes his chase debut at Newcastle over the extended two miles (4.30pm). He’s a talented horse and does things nicely at home. We’d see this as a positive starting point for his chase career and are expecting him to run well.

Saturday, Kempton

Corrigeen Rock takes his chance down at Kempton in the feature three-mile handicap chase (3.35pm) and he looks quite overpriced. I thought he ran with real credit at Musselburgh on his last start and that that’s quite strong form. He’s obviously a course winner from last season and that will count for a fair bit around a track like Kempton. He’s a big price and I suppose that’s due to being off 140, but he’s in fine form and we’re hopeful of a good run.

Big horse updates

We were thrilled with Apple Away’s run in the Grand National Trial at Haydock last weekend. She is showing herself to be a real stayer these days, and so we were delighted with how she was able to finish second. We’ve spoken plenty of times this season about how the Scottish National is on our agenda, but we might even think about running her in the Midlands National en route. Keep posted to my blog here for further updates, but all I can say is that I’m delighted with the Old Gold Racing mare’s building up to the spring.

Ahoy Senor has been a real star for the yard in recent years and we’re getting him ready for a tilt at the Gold Cup. He had a pleasing racecourse gallop at Kelso last week, and we’ll look to do the same again with him as we get closer to Cheltenham. It’s going to be an almighty task to defeat Galopin Des Champs, but other than him it doesn’t look like a vintage Gold Cup. Our guy hasn’t had the most perfect season by any means, but we’re hoping that we can just get him to Cheltenham in good enough form to show his best.
