Newbury Tips Saturday: Through The Card On Lockinge Day

Newbury Tips Saturday

It’s Lockinge Stakes Day at Newbury on Saturday and our horse racing writer provides his thoughts on every race across the card.

You can read our full Lockinge Stakes betting preview ahead of Saturday’s feature race, as well as tips on every Newbury race this weekend.

Without further ado, it’s time to get stuck into it – starting with a competitive Group 3 event to kick things off.

12.50pm – 1m4f Aston Park Stakes (Group 3)

Even at the age of eight, William Haggas’ AL AASY continues to race at the top of his came and he can take this Group 3 scalp today.

The course and distance winner recently landed the Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes and will not go down without a fight today.

Danger: Sunway

1.25pm – 6f Carnarvon Stakes (Listed Race)

STRONG WARRIOR ‘could be anything’ and he’s a big each way price in the Listed race on Saturday. Oisin Orr retains the partnership, having been onboard for both of his career victories.

The race conditions are against him but he could be much better than his official rating of 91 and I’m expecting a good run on Saturday if he takes to Newbury.

Danger: Symbol Of Honour

2.00pm – 1m2f London Gold Cup Handicap

I’m going with the Roger Varian-trained SADDADD in the London Gold Cup, with the 1m2f trip likely to suit. He certainly showed an improved level of form when second to Gethin here in April.

Since then, he’s been trained presumably with this race in mind and this looks to be one of Silvestre De Sousa’s best chances of the day.

Danger: Nebras

2.35pm – 1m  Lockinge Stakes (Group 1)

There has been very little talk about TAMFANA being a potential winner of the Lockinge, but I personally think she holds a great chance of taking home the silverware. She’s also well fancied in our sports betting markets.

David Menuisier believes his filly Tamfana is “ready to go again”, having decided the Lockinge Stakes, rather than the Prix d’Ispahan, is the right race for the four-year-old.

Danger: Rosallion

3.10pm – 1m2f Childwickbury Stud Fillies’ Trial Stakes (Listed Race)

We only saw REVOIR run once last season, but the manner of her victory at Nottingham on heavy ground was highly commendable and she looks poised to show us what she can do on summer ground.

Currently a 33/1 shot for the Oaks in our horse racing odds, you may want to snap up a little piece of that before Saturday arrives.

Danger: Sand Gazelle

3.45pm – 6f Hong Kong Jockey Club Handicap

RUN BOY RUN has been holding his own on the Heritage Handicap circuit for trainer Richard Spencer and he’s one of the leading contenders to take this valuable six furlong contest.

A repeat of his Newmarket performance on May 3rd  would be enough to capture this six furlong sprint.

Danger: Elmonjed

4.20pm – 1m Handicap

The Spring Cup at Newbury in April was a decent race and the Richard Hannon-trained CLASSIC ran a belter in it.

Beaten by just 1½ lengths to Ebt’s Yard, the Dubawi-gelding can step it up another notch this afternoon.

Danger: English Oak

4.55pm – 1m World Pool Handicap

At the end of what has actually been Dante week at York, a topical winner at Newbury would be DANTE’S LAD for George Boughey.

The three-year-old looked in the need of the run on his seasonal return at Newmarket, and can return to the winner’s enclosure with a bang.

Danger: Nakeeb
