Newmarket July Festival Tips Day 2: Friday’s Best Bets At HQ

It’s the second day of the 2026 Newmarket July Festival and William Hill News look through each race on the card this Friday.

Visitors to the July Meeting on Friday will bear witness to the prestigious Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes. This mile-long contest brings together top fillies and mares, offering a high-profile showdown of strategy and pace.

Newmarket Tips Friday:

  • 1.50 – Princling (NAP)
  • 2.25 – Libertango (NB)
  • 3.00 – Goblet Of Fire
  • 3.35 – Blue Bolt
  • 4.10 – Acting Lady
  • 4.45 – Twilight Calls
  • 5.20 – Aqua Bear

Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington takes a look through the potential movers and shakers on Day Two:

1.50pm – 1m3f Handicap (Class 2)

Pedigrees don’t come much more better than that of PRINCLING (NAP), and the three-year-old can get his season back on track with a victory in this handicap.

After breaking his maiden tag at Wetherby in style, he was highly tried when finishing 4th of 14 at Carlisle in the Silver Bowl Handicap, followed by 5th in the Golden Gates at Royal Ascot.

This drop in class should see him to better effect and he a strong win bet.

2.25pm – 6f Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2)

George Boughey’s LIBERTANGO (NB) is the clear standout runner and the one they all have to beat here.

She arrives on the back of a brilliant victory in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and dominates this field on an official rating of 109.

3.00pm – 1m6f Handicap (Class 2)

GOBLET OF FIRE recently landed the prestigious Betfred Handicap at Newmarket over 1m6f and connections are hopeful he can bring up a double on Friday.

Trained by Nicky Henderson, the six-year-old is a generous 13/2 shot in our horse racing betting and can be backed with plenty of each-way confidence.

3.35pm – 1m Falmouth Stakes (Group 1)

Currently sitting around the 7/2 mark in our sports betting market, the Andrew Balding-trained BLUE BOLT enters this Group 1 contest at the absolute peak of her powers.

After a career-best performance to score in the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot, she was staying on remarkably well to dominate that contest and can do so again today. She ranks as a live danger to the Aidan O’Brien-trained favourite – Precise.

4.10pm – 6f Maiden Fillies’ Stakes

There’s very little to go on in this race so I will side with ACTING LADY to progress again from her debut run a fortnight ago.

The Dark Angel-filly looks sure the be in the vanguard in a race full of green looking unknowns.

4.45pm – 5f Handicap (Class 3)

Course and distance scorer TWILIGHT CALLS looks too difficult to ignore around the 8/1 price point in our early betting show.

Saffie Osborne won on this gelding a couple of runs ago at Sandown and I’m pretty sure the pairing will click once more on Friday.

5.20pm – 7f Handicap (Class 4)

I was quite impressed by the way AQUA BEAR ran at Carlisle 16 days ago, and this drop back to seven furlongs seems like a clever move by his trainer after that performance.

Billy Loughnane is a top booking, and the 80-rated youngster could well be one they all have to catch over the final furlong on the July Course.
