2000 Guineas Tips: Bow Echo Heads Newmarket Best Bets For Saturday
William Hill News horse racing tipster Steve Mullington casts his eye over all the action on 2000 Guineas day at Newmarket.
Saturday sees the running of the first Classic of the season – the 2000 Guineas, a Group 1 race open to three-year-old colts, staged on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over one mile.
Newmarket Tips 2000 Guineas Day:
- 1.10pm – Celandine
- 1.45pm – Invictus Gold
- 2.20pm – Botanical
- 2.55pm – JM Jungle
- 3.35pm – Bow Echo (NAP)
- 4.10pm – Comical Point
- 4.45pm – Nightime Dancer
- 5.20pm – Thaluna
- 5.55pm – I Still Have Faith
Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington runs you through the bonanza nine-race card:
1.10 – 6f Kilvington Stakes (Listed)
Seasonal debutante CELANDINE was a good third to Sayidah Dariyan in a York Group 3 on her 2025 reappearance, so I am hopeful of something similar happening today.
The filly has lots of experience at this level and above, with her odds of 10/1 in our horse racing betting looking more than generous.
1.45 – 6f Heritage Handicap
INVICTUS GOLD was probably held up for too long in his last run behind Double Rush here, and can be much closer to his rival today.
The 101-rated course and distance scorer should be right up there in the frame again and can defy top weight.
2.20 – 1m1f Suffolk Stakes Handicap
The Karl Burke-trained BOTANICAL can build upon his close fourth in the Lincoln with a victory here.
The step back up to 1m1f will be ideal for the six-year-old and Clifford Lee is the number one choice on the yard.
2.55 – 5f Palace House Stakes (Group 3)
JM JUNGLE always holds his own in these types of races and can be involved in this fast and furious sprint at an each-way price
The six-time scorer can make it win number seven over this sprint trip at headquarters.
3.35 – 1m 2000 Guineas Stakes (Group 1)
BOW ECHO (NAP) is defending an unbeaten record of three-from-three, which culminated in a fine performance in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes over the same course and distance as today.
Sired by 2,000 Guineas winner Night Of Thunder and from the family of Dubawi, George Boughey’s charge deserves plenty of respect.
4.10 – 6f Handicap
Andrew Balding’s COMICAL POINT (NB) was involved in a cobweb remover three weeks ago on the all-weather and can hit the turf running at Newmarket.
He is very much respected on his handicap debut.
4.45 – 1m4f Handicap
Richard Hannon usually has a winner or two across the Guineas fixture and his NIGHTIME DANCER looks primed to score in his opening handicap.
The four-year-old held his own in a couple of Group 3’s last term, so should find this level of competition much easier.
5.20 – 7f Confined Handicap
The eye is straight away drawn to THALUNA for Haggas/Marquand in this confined handicap and connections appear to have found a great opening for the three-year-old.
This horse may well go off the favourite in our sports betting for this contest, but he’s a worthy one.
5.55 – 1m Handicap
Fit from the all-weather I STILL HAVE FAITH can make full use of his handicap mark and be in the shake-up over this mile trip.
With four turf wins and numerous place efforts to his name, the six-year-old makes plenty of each-way appeal.
