The penultimate day of Glorious Goodwood is upon us and here are Nick Luck’s thoughts on the best of the action.
Anna Nerium looks the One to topple Master
The Oak Tree Stakes (1:45pm) kicks off the televised action on Friday at Goodwood and, while this represents a very obvious opportunity for One Master, the likely chaos factor here stops me getting involved in anything at a short price, and I’m more interested in taking a chance on ANNA NERIUM at 20/1. She is very effective at this track, has won twice first time off a significant break, and will be suited by the strong pace.
My eye is drawn to Oberon in Thoroughbred Stakes
The Thoroughbred Stakes (2:15pm) features some really promising types, but the vote at the prices goes narrowly to MY OBERON who evidently shows more on the racecourse than at home, and can continue to make progress from his runaway win at York at 7/2.
Urban could be an Iconic Golden Mile bet
The Golden Mile (2:45pm) is always a difficult race, but I like one here in the shape of URBAN ICON who is dropping to handicap company for the first time – he’s a class act on a very workable mark, and I can see him travelling very smoothly round here. An easy mile looks tailor made for him. He’s my fancy at 14/1.
Battaash or Le Don to dominate?
It’s impossible to look beyond BATTAASH to land his fourth King George Stakes (3;15pm), but I am prepared to be a bit more adventurous in the Glorious Stakes (3:45pm), where I’m taking a chance with LE DON DE VIE. He’s 15/2, and his smart handicap form doesn’t leave him with too much find here.
