There’s a competitive 10-race card at Gulfstream Park on Friday evening and our US racing expert, Nick Luck, has taken a look at the best of the action.
Yates’ contender can Assume Control
I think I might have located some value at Gulfstream on Friday in the shape of ASSUME CONTROL in Race 8 (9:21pm). This mare by Take Charge Lady has not run over six furlongs for some time, but she’s not devoid of speed and will be much more comfortable cutting back in distance than around the two turns she attempted when we last saw her.
In addition, there’s plenty of horses to take one another on up front, all drawn to her inside, so there’s potential for a perfect trip here as well. Her barn is going well, and I’d be keen to play her each-way at likely double figure odds.
Jaramillo’s mount is worth a Special Inclusion
Earlier on the card, in Race 2 (6:15pm), SPECIAL INCLUSION is the answer. This filly, from the first crop of the useful Social Inclusion, showed bright speed on her debut over course and distance in April and should be more streetwise this time under Emisael Jaramillo, who is a sound judge from the front.
Say Cheese, the eye-catching newcomer on connections, is nicely bred, but is no sprinter on pedigree, so big priced outsiders for the exotics could be Sophisticurl and Tempt Me.
Jo Jo can Go Go in two-year-old contest
Race 5 (7:46pm) is a tidy-looking Maiden Special Weight for two-year-olds in which GO JO JO GO is the selection. The fact that she failed to finish on her debut is inauspicious, but that was hardly her fault as she was badly hampered. More encouragingly, she was starting to roll at the time, and she’ll appreciate the extra distance here.
Ridge could have the Wind in his sails in the lucky last
A few disappointing types line up in the closing contest (10:24pm) where WIND RIDGE gets the vote. He showed clear signs of ability in stronger company on his debut run at Tampa Bay and could take a step forward here.
