GINNY’S DESTINY can continue a fine weekend for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden by winning the TV opener at Cheltenham on Sunday (1.45pm) at 3/1. Switched to Nicholls having shown smart form for Tom Lacey, Ginny’s Destiny went like a very smart horse for the most part on his stable and chasing debut. He appeared to tire quickly, so it’s a fair assumption he’ll come on a fair bit, and the softer ground will certainly play in his favour. He might not get as much company for the lead either.

GUETAPAN COLLONGES has compelling claims in the long distance chase (2.20pm) at 7/2. There seems no bottom to this horse’s stamina, but he went with a bit more vigour on his seasonal debut, taking his form to a new level. He’s not been hammered by the handicapper for that, and reason young enough to think he could win a big race or two this year.

EDWARDSTONE might be a bet at 3/1 against hotpot Jonbon in the Shloer Chase (2.55pm). Although last season was ultimately frustrating, it’s worth remembering just how devastating he was in the Tingle Creek first time out against a Sandown specialist, not to mention the turn of speed he showed from an unpromising position when asked to chase down Editeur Du Gite in the Clarence House. The assumption that he is more of a stayer than Jonbon may be incorrect. As things stand, Edwardstone is the higher rated horse, yet is four times the price without any real convictions.

L’EAU DU SUD looks very tempting at 9/2 in the Greatwood (3.30pm). Having come from France with form and a reputation, it might be considered a little disappointing that he didn’t win last year, but patience could yet be rewarded. He invariably impressed with how he travelled in his races, but really got the hang of it when third to two very smart types in the Morebattle. That showed he could cut it against top handicappers in a race like this, while the breathing op should help find a few more pounds.

Fontwell

MOVETHECHAINS could be the one at 11/4 for the Southern Nationa (2.04pm) l if the Fontwell card gets the go-ahead. He’s a genuine sluggard, but this small field and very testing conditions should be ideal for him and this is a thin race.
