Nick Luck’s Blog: Fox can keep them all at Bay at Windsor

| BY News Team

Buoyed by a confident winning shout in last week’s Racing League, I’m champing at the bit for another crack at our favourite weekly jamboree.

The roadshow rolls on to Windsor, where I’m hoping that APHELIOS can appreciate the drop in class in the six furlong race (5.30pm). He ran really well in the first time shades in the Stewards’ Cup and will enjoy a return to a better surface. He should get an early view of the front, which he was unable to do when running well here earlier in the season. 17/2.

HOLKHAM BAY (6.00pm) is another at tasty odds of 17/2 and probably would be about a third of the price but for sinking on the Sussex Downs. A horse blessed with loads of natural pace, this is much more like it and Neil Callan is the only jockey to have won on him.

HAT TOSS should give a really good account (6.30pm) at 6/1. He won really well at Sandown (only one pound higher now), but the Newmarket run probably came too soon in addition to him getting the worst of a pace battle. Back down in grade and on the right surface, he can make the most of Billy Loughnane’s gift of three pounds.

TEUMESSIAS FOX is not reliable but could carry these home if he’s in the mood (8.00pm) at 15/2. A repeat of the Newmarket run and he just wins, while you can excuse a dud at Royal Ascot and two fair runs on unsuitable ground in pattern races. This sort of race is where he belongs and is comfortable, while it’s a wonder cheekpieces or similar haven’t been tried already – they might help a fair bit
