Nick Luck blog: Another good day in store for Jim Crowley?

| BY News Team

We’ve reached the halfway stage of Glorious Goodwood and the top-quality action keeps coming. Nick Luck has previewed it all for us below…

A Group horse in a handicap?

Thursday at Goodwood, and CELTIC ART is my fancy to land the 10-furlong handicap (1:45pm) at 11/1. Already a winner here at Goodwood, he was a most progressive two-year-old who seemed ground adaptable. He travelled exceptionally well through his races, and could be a real force now he’s asked to step up in trip. He could be a Group horse in waiting.

Haggas and Marquand can team up to take out Richmond

YAZAMAN can win the Richmond Stakes (2:15pm). The clock has already told us that this is a smart colt, and I think this ground will be more suitable than the rain softened surface at Newmarket, when he still ran a fine race behind a horse who might be Group One calibre in Tactical. His dam was a winner at Goodwood on her only try at the track and he looks the one to be with at 9/4.

Bahrain Trophy winner backed to go well in Gordon Stakes

The Gordon Stakes (2:45pm) is one of the races of the week and, while English King is a horse of great ability, I think AL AASY (5/1) has even more to offer back at 12 furlongs given the way he moved through the Bahrain Trophy. I am hoping that the presence of Subjectivist will deny Khalifa Sat an easy lead.

Crowley could be at the double

Jim Crowley can land another big prize in the Nassau Stakes (3:15pm) aboard NAZEEF. John Gosden may have been a little surprised by her victory in the Falmouth, but she beat two horses who have shown Group One form against males, and there is the tantalising prospect of more to come over a couple of furlongs further. She is top class and is still a decent price at 11/4.

Balding’s runner fancied in nursery

CALCUTTA CUP could be the one in the nursery handicap (3:45pm). The handicapper only has one piece of form he can really go on, and that was a yet-to-be-determined race at Newbury. The time and pedigrees of the front two, however, suggest that the selection has plenty of ability and should be very competitive off this mark at 13/2.
