Nick Luck’s Blog: Leap of faith for a Kingdom Of Riches

Doncaster, Friday

KINGDOM OF RICHES gets a narrow vote in the TV opener at Doncaster on Friday (1.50pm) at 7/1. From a stable loaded with talent in this division, he was rather unlucky to bump into the very smart subsequent Acomb winner Indian Run on his debut before comfortably seeing off inferiors at Leicester. He looked a fair stayer at this trip that day, and there are a few suspect ones in here.

KYLIAN is worth another chance in the Flying Childers (2.25pm) at 11/2. He hasn’t really had the rub of the green since Sandown, but is likely to get a really well run five with cut here, which should be perfect.

SWEET WILLIAM can upset the big two in the Doncaster Cup (3.00pm) at 4/1. Ratings say he can’t beat Trueshan and Coltrane, but the curve of his progress combined with his pedigree suggests strongly that he’s been marking time in handicaps. He did incredibly well deep on the track on quick ground at York and will be more at home on this surface at a track where he has already excelled and where his brother won the Leger.

QUANTUM LEAP is a bit of an unknown quantity, but there’s enough there to think he could take a hand in the Mallard (3.35pm) at 8/1. He looked pretty smart over this trip at Haydock, before never really getting into a tempo led race at Nottingham. He appears to have ideal conditions here, and could easily still have something up his sleeve from the handicapper.
