Nick Luck’s blog: Alfaila can continue Shadwell’s good form

It’s another great day’s action at Doncaster for day three of the St Leger festival and while Stradivarius will be the main attraction, there’s some others that could go well at nice prices.

Nick Luck has run his eye over five races from Doncaster.

ALFLAILA can win at nice odds of 10/1 in the TV opener at Doncaster on Friday (1:40). Although he has a little to find on ratings, he’s improving fast and ran ridiculously well at York in a race where the draw gave him zero chance of winning. The market has missed him, and he can run very well here.

THE ORGANISER is another at quite a flash price of 10/1 in the Flying Childers (2.10). About the unluckiest horse this season in Pattern company at Newmarket, he then got outstayed in a race at Salisbury in which he was a million times the best. A drop to 5 furlongs is just the ticket.

RODRIGO DIAZ has been brought along quite beautifully by David Simcock and he can guarantee his place in the Melbourne Cup line-up with a big run at 6/1 in the Doncaster Cup (2.40). He is far from fully exposed over a trip and, for all he has the mighty Stradivarius to overcome, he is overpriced to do so.

LUCKY DEAL looks fair value each way at 16/1 in the Mallard (3.15). He’s a big price because he’s essentially pretty exposed, but conditions look just about right for him, he’s handicapped to win again and is just starting to cycle back into a bit of form. I’d expect him to be ridden a bit more positively than at Newmarket.

LAMPANG is getting another chance at 16/1 in the sprint handicap (3.45). I fancied him a bit in the Beverley Bullet last time, but he could never quite get into it. Up in trip and down in class, he looks off a very reasonable mark to make an impact again.
