ROARING LEGEND has a squeak at a big price in the Mallard at Donny on Friday (1.15). He has come back from a break and wind-op in much better nick than his form figures suggest, and ran with great credit in the Ebor considering he got too far back and found trouble. This is easier, and the track and distance will suit well.
DO OR DO NOT (1.50) is probably worth an interest in the Flying Scotsman, as his price at the time of writing suggests most have given up on this well decorated maiden. But the reality is that he takes a sharp drop in grade, has proved consistent, and it’s just possible he’ll appreciate the softer ground for its own sake as one of his siblings was a good stakes performer when the mud was flying. He’ll certainly appreciate the greater stamina test that it creates.
REVIVAL POWER may not want more rain, but I’m chancing she’ll get away with conditions in the Flying Childers (2.25). He sister Winter Power managed to go okay on soft before making up into a Group One sprinter, and the evidence of the time she ran at York suggests that Revival Power could do something similar in due course. There’s nothing in this likely to be able to match her early speed, and she could just have them under the pump from the outset.
KYLE OF LOCHALSH might prove the revelation in the Doncaster Cup (3.00). Granted, he has never proven himself at this level, but he looked a different proposition at Goodwood over an extreme distance, and could just keep galloping pretty hard from the front. Sweet William is admirable and loves this place, but he’s always one you’d oppose when he’s at the head of the market and he could just be vulnerable to a really hardy stayer in front of him.
CAPE FLORA might have been put up nine pounds for the York romp (3.40), but that might be nowhere near enough given how she bolted up. Furthermore, everything about her (especially her pedigree) suggest that she can eke out more over this distance.
