Nick Luck’s blog: Super Starlust a sprinter on the up

William Hill ambassador Nick Luck runs his expert eye over day four of Glorious Goodwood, picking out his best bets.

Goodwood, Friday

SUPER SUPERJACK looks the best option in the Goodwood opener (1:50pm). He was very unlucky not to win this two years ago, and hadn’t seen a lot of racing since, but he has reappeared off a similar mark and shaped as though all the ability was still there on his comeback. This has presumably been the big target, we know conditions are ideal, and Tom Marquand has been booked.

SOCIALITE finished behind two of his rivals here at Newmarket last time, but there are grounds for thinking he could fare better this afternoon (2:25pm). He raced almost alone throughout that day, showing very bright speed and significant ability on softened ground. Despite effectively being given no chance, he kept battling away to not be beaten all that far. Prior to that, he’d thumped the shorter priced King’s Gamble at Doncaster, and I’m inclined to be more forgiving than the market.

BOPEDRO might do best of the David O’Meara octet in the Golden Mile (3:00pm). He is sliding down to a very dangerous mark very quickly, and ran much better than it looks at Ascot the other day, which may well have served as a pipe opener for this after a little break. It is interesting that Rossa Ryan retains the ride, and I can see him taking a slightly handier position this afternoon.

STARLUST looks the coming force in the King George Stakes (3:35pm). He’d have given Big Evs something to think about with a clearer run at the Breeders’ Cup, and his two five furlong runs this season have been very smart. He has the perfect running style for this: he can sit handy enough in behind the absolute speedballs like Ponntos and Live In The Dream, both of whom are drawn around him, but can finish off that bit stronger.
