Nick Luck’s blog: Facteur in Cheval to the Sussex equation

William Hill ambassador Nick Luck takes you through his best bets on day two of Glorious Goodwood.
Goodwood, Wednesday
CLOCKMAKER looks a very big price in the Goodwood opener (1:50pm). Bred to want fast ground and a trip, he has shown a good cruising speed in his three runs to date behind very useful rivals, and the handicapper has been far from harsh. If inexperience doesn’t catch him out, he can give us a run for our money at generous odds.
STOP THE CAVALRY faces some much more seasoned rivals in the Oak Tree (2:25pm). That said, she looks like she could be a bit special – that’s chiefly based on a romp from a terrible early position in a Chester sprint handicap, in which she thumped useful rivals and ran hard through the line. Surely this extra furlong can bring about more improvement, which is needed but entirely possible.
CELANDINE looks the one in the Molecomb (3:00pm). Her victory in the Empress Stakes is working out exceptionally well, and she showed fierce pace that day, with her rider strongly suggesting that five furlongs could be her forte. The run in France last time did nothing to diminish that theory, and she can get back on the winning trail with conditions to suit.
FACTEUR CHEVAL is definitely worth a play at the odds in the Sussex (3:35pm). He hardly missed a beat last year, is super tough, ran a wonderful race in Dubai, and can easily be forgiven a tepid run at Ascot as he was marooned behind the going-nowhere Big Rock in the middle of the track. He’s much better than that, and I hope he gets a good positive ride so as to put genuine pressure on the three-year-olds.
