Nick Luck’s William Hill blog: Grand National Day Tips

William Hill ambassador Nick Luck previews Grand National Day, picking out his top six for the big race.

William Hill are Best Odds Guaranteed from 8am daily across all UK and Irish racing.

Saturday, Aintree

BILL JOYCE looks to have been found a suitable opportunity in the opener on Grand National day (1.20). His Challow third (worked out well) makes this mark looks very appealing, and this track and ground will be much more to his liking than Cheltenham on Trials Day. He’s a confident shout to go really well.

KAPPA JY PYKE is a bit of a swing to upset the applecart in the Mersey (1.55). The selection ran way better than his finishing position at Cheltenham, bang there two out having raced way too keenly in much the best novice of the week. Paul Townend takes over, and he can build on that here.

LE MILOS might run a nice race in the William Hill handicap (2.30). While I’m not getting carried away with his win in a thin old-timers’ event at Warwick, he did bolt up, and is only three pounds higher. He had a bit of a float round at Newbury last time, never really getting the rub of the green, and this trip on a flat track and decent ground is spot-on, particularly with Harry Skelton back in the plate.

THE WALLPARK is the choice in the Liverpool Hurdle (3.05). Only a couple of lengths behind Teahupoo in the Stayers’, that was a tremendous run off a layoff first time in senior Grade One company. He’s entitled to step forward again, all the more so on better ground.

My Grand National selections have been extensively featured across William Hill platforms during the last few days, and the top six are:

  1. INTENSE RAFFLES
  2. MINELLA COCOONER
  3. GRANGECLARE WEST
  4. MONBEG GENIUS
  5. I AM MAXIMUS
  6. KANDOO KID

KALIF DU BERLAIS can return to form in the Maghull (5.00). There’s a possibility he could get the run of the race on the front end, and comes here fresher than the Cheltenham horses. A return to this trip will suit after struggling through the mud at Sandown.

MOSSY FEN ROAD gets the nod in the bumper (5.35). He needs to come on again from Cheltenham, but he has looked the real deal in both point and bumper thus far (backed accordingly), and could just have the sort of star quality that his pedigree strongly suggests.
