Nick Luck’s Racing League blog: Let’s Chase The Dollar at Newcastle

| BY News Team

I’ve another four shots at this evening’s racing league, and I’m going to kick off with a horse that could get Billy Loughnane very close to losing his claim.

CHASE THE DOLLAR (5.45pm) has got plenty of really useful all-weather form that makes him well handicapped here, and there were signs of a notable revival at Leicester last time. He makes appeal at a nice each way price of 11/1.

CLASSY CLARETS (6.15pm) can continue Richard Fahey’s fine run in the League at 4/1. He’s been a bit of a slow burner, but there’s no doubting he has a measure of ability, and ought to be able to build on a much better effort here last time, particularly if he’s away from the gate a bit quicker.

CAROLUS MAGNUS (7.45pm) caught everyone’s eye at Chelmsford last time, but that was the second time in as many starts he’d shown a bit on a synthetic surface, and this stiffer test at the trip should suit much better. This isn’t the strongest of races, and he’s clearly ready to win again at 6/1.

ALLIGATOR ALLEY, a bit of a cliff horse, gets one last chance at 11/2 in the finale (8.45pm). He’s not the most generous at the finish these days, but he’s been much better at the start of late, and this race could easily collapse around him. This is a lesser race than York last week, and a repeat of that must make him competitive.
