Nick Luck’s Racing League blog: Pressure’s On to find Wolves winners
There’s more Racing League action to look forward to on Thursday night and, buoyed by Alligator Alley finally consenting to get his head in front last week, I am casting an eye over the Wolverhampton leg of everyone’s favourite team-based jamboree.
Wolverhampton, Thursday
We’ll kick off with PRESSURE’S ON at a nice price of 10/1 in the opening nursery (5.45pm). With course form under his belt at five furlongs, but assured over six, the combination of the two, plus a big field and a guaranteed strong pace might just do the trick. I like the idea of Luke Morris on this horse – his tactical acumen around here could be crucial.
YEOMAN must surely run a bold race at 9/2 in the extended mile (6.45pm). He might just have run into a very well-treated horse at Southwell last time, added to which he didn’t get the smoothest of starts. His trainer has hit a nice bit of form, and this one looks far from fully exposed.
FARASI LANE is a slightly in-and-out customer, but he’s largely held his form this season and can land a nice prize under Sean Levey (7.15pm), who has got a decent tune out of him on each occasion he’s been in the plate. He gets relatively few chances to run on an artificial surface, but seems to enjoy it, as he did the reapplication of the tongue tie for a seasonal best last time. There’s enough value in his price of 8/1 too.
Finally, I’m going in again with CAROLUS MAGNUS (7.45pm), who shaped again with loads of promise last week at Newcastle, when the jockey whipped the blind off too late and he was left with a load to do in a slowly run race. A drop back in trip will present a better pace scenario, and there is little doubt he’s handicapped to win, so odds of 12/1 look more than fair.
