Nick Luck’s Blog: Pyle is Driving towards a win on final day of Royal Ascot

William Hill ambassador Nick Luck casts his expert eye over the fifth and final day of Royal Ascot.

Royal Ascot, Saturday

LA GUARIDA at 13/2 makes quite a bit of appeal in the Chesham Stakes that opens up the fifth and final day of Royal Ascot (2.30pm). The form of her Goodwood victory is working out very tidily, she recorded a fair time, and she coped easily with six furlongs even though she is bred to be well suited by this step up in distance.

HOLLOWAY BOY at 10/1 is worth another chance in the Jersey Stakes (3.05pm). Last year’s Chesham winner hasn’t really been seen to the best effect in recent starts, but a return to this track and a sounder surface, plus a drop in trip, could well unlock his true ability.

ARTORIUS can take the Jubilee Stakes (3.40pm). He ran a cracking race in this contest last year, and again in the July Cup, but just left himself too much to do. He looks like a much-improved performer in Australia this season and will surely be ridden a little closer to the pace. At 4/1, he can make amends under his new rider.

PYLEDRIVER is now becoming a dangerously big price at 15/2 for the Hardwicke Stakes (4.20pm). I appreciate that he may need the race and that he has the King George as the primary objective, but he’s just too good a horse to go off at the price at the time of writing, and we know he just loves this track and loves fast ground, the latter a clear concern for Hukum.

ORAZIO at 6/1 is the one on the up in the Wokingham Stakes (5.00pm). You only have to look at the way he was campaigned as a two-year-old to understand what sort of horse he has always been considered. His runs after a year off the track have confirmed him as a genuine talent who remains ahead of the handicapper. There’s no obvious reason why quicker ground should be an issue.

KNOCKBREX looks like a decent enough prospect for John & Thady Gosden in the Golden Gates Handicap (5.35pm). His form looks solid and progressive, I like him on this surface, and could see him attempting to dictate the race down in trip at 10/3.

THE GRAND VISIR is a sporting selection in the Queen Alexandra Stakes (6.10pm). He ran extremely well here on Tuesday in the Ascot Stakes, gets every yard of the trip, and is a genuine each-way price at 12/1.
