Nick Luck’s William Hill Blog: Selections, Do Your Jobs

DO YOUR JOB can make his class tell in the opener for ITV4 viewers on Friday (1.45pm). He was entitled to need his first run in the Old Roan, and wouldn’t really have been helped by fence omissions as he’d established a nice rhythm near the lead. This is a nice drop in class and I like the drop back to two miles as well. 6/1.

PETIT TONNERRE is quite an interesting contender at 10/3 in the Arkle Trial (2.20pm). The most talented of these over hurdles, he acquitted himself really well in a couple of valuable races, particularly at this venue in the County Hurdle. He has good French chasers in his pedigree, has a nice blend of speed and stamina, and will go fine in the ground. The stable has some fair horses this year.

FRANCKY DU BERLAIS surely has to be the each way play at 11/1 in the Cross Country (2.55pm). It’s odd to say about a horse who refused here in March, but he’d run his eyeballs out over these fences, and was booked for a very honourable third to today’s two principals. Given he’s race-fit and is now in receipts of lumps of weight in this handicap, there’s every chance he can get in the frame at big odds.

CAPTAIN TEAGUE is quite hard to oppose at 4/7 in the Novice Hurdle (3.30pm). Although he looks like he’ll need even further in time judged on his Persian War win, and this won’t be a cakewalk against at least two fair types, the running style of the Irish runners suggest this will be run at a pretty honest pace, which will suit the favourite. His bumper run here obviously gives encouragement as regards the track.
