Nick Luck’s William Hill blog: William Hill Lincoln & Dubai World Cup tips
William Hill ambassador Nick Luck previews today’s action at Doncaster, Kempton, Meydan and in the US.
Saturday, Doncaster
BOUTBLUMMINTIME makes some appeal at a big price in the William Hill Bill Turner Brocklesby (1.20). He is with a highly respected and in-form trainer, and comes from a talented and fast family, with smart and precocious Make Fast and Raymi Coya close up in the pedigree.
MONTASSIB can repeat his heroics of two years ago in the William Hill Cammidge (1.50). This edition is well up to scratch, but the selection is a top level sprinter at his best, and has conditions to suit. Mitbaahy is an interesting rival at a bigger price, particularly if the ground continues to dry.
VINCENT ROCKS is not to be underestimated in the William Hill Spring Mile (2.25). His final run last year is easily forgiven, but the opening effort in particular makes him look pretty well treated and overpriced in relation to Mezcala. He is open to way more improvement than most and may have the best of the draw given the likely pace around him.
VOLTERRA is a speculative pick in the William Hill Doncaster Mile (2.57). This is a tight little race, and is hardly the ultimate goal for Docklands or Qirat. The selection might well be able to dictate matters, and has a decent record fresh.
LA BOTTE is hardly the most original pick in the William Hill Lincoln (3.32), but he could easily be marking time before landing up in something pretty smart like the Queen Anne. His second in the Britannia was a superb effort given his lack of experience, and everybody saw his obvious wellbeing on his comeback.
Saturday, Kempton
SHERADANN might go well at a price in the Queen’s Prize at Kempton (2.08). He’s not that easy to predict, but he likes this track, stays well, and remains perfectly well handicapped. I like the booking of David Egan, and expect a big run.
GAMRAI is worth another chance in the Roseberry (2.42). This is a spicy enough race, and he was a shade disappointing after breaking his maiden. But he looked good that day, and the gelding operation might just do the trick, with his top yard evidently keen to persevere.
PINA SONATA is fancied to win the Snowdrop (3.13). She was really thrown in the deep end after her impressive Leicester win last year, and at a time when the stable was badly out of form. They’ve started this year really well, however, and this well bred and highly regarded filly should have considerably more to offer.
Saturday, Meydan
I’ll be at Meydan today, where a feature of the Dubai World Cup card is the proliferation of short priced favourites. I don’t think there’s much mileage in opposing the likes of COMMISSIONER KING (12.20), OMBUDSMAN (3.35) or CALANDAGAN (4.10), but it might pay to play RAYEVKA small stakes each way in the Al Quoz (2.20) and TUMBARUMBA in the World Cup itself – he’s been crying out for a trip.
Saturday, Gulfstream Park
There are two major Kentucky Derby preps taking place in the US tonight – the Florida Derby (10.42) can go the way of CHIEF WALLABEE, who ran a stormer for one so light on experience behind today’s rival Commandment in the Fountain of Youth. He looks to be moving forward at quite a rate for his brilliant trainer.
Saturday, Oaklawn Park
Meanwhile over at Oaklawn Park (11.48), RENEGADE looks as though he might be a cut above judged on his win (very well backed) at Tampa Bay Downs. Again, he represents top connections and has a serious pedigree to boot.
