Nick Luck’s Racing League blog: Spring can Glow at Newcastle

SPRING GLOW (7/1) is the first leg of tonight’s Racing League each-way yankee (5.45pm). This is a pretty realistic slot for this mare, who has inched down the weight after a couple of so-so performances. My feeling is she’s a good bit better on an artificial surface and, with that in mind, might just be well treated back on the Tapeta over a trip that suits perfectly. The jockey is riding very well at the moment.

SWATCH looks a potential blot on the handicap (6.15pm) for a yard in form, and is a perfectly decent price at 11/1. The maiden form behind Claymore reads very well, but the drubbing of the now mid-70s rated They Don’t Know makes him very dangerous off this mark against a bunch of largely exposed horses. As one of only two three-year-olds in the race (the other being the favourite with nothing in his price), he makes plenty of appeal.

BRINGITONBORIS is the riskiest one of these (6.45pm), but has been marking time running on firm turf that he doesn’t really enjoy, and now comes back to his beloved Newcastle mile off a mark lower than that from which he last won here – and it wasn’t all that long ago. These facts alone make him an each-way bet at 18/1.

LOVES ME LIKEAROCK is the final selection (8.15pm) at 13/2. She is 2-2 on the all-weather and actually comes here in pretty good form, having run respectably under rather aggressive tactics at Glorious Goodwood. Judged on her efforts on the Rowley Mile earlier in the year, this stiffer six furlongs should suit better, and the stable is well amongst the winners again.
