Paul Townend
There’s no better job in National Hunt racing than being stable jockey for untouchable Irish trainer Willie Mullins. Although Townend began his riding career as a Flat jockey, he’s now Mullins’ go-to jockeys and has racked up a plethora of big-race victories since changing to ride over Jumps.

Who is Paul Townend?
Hailing from County Cork, Paul Townend took over the position of first jockey at Closutton in 2019, replacing Ruby Walsh, who was retiring from the saddle. In the same year, prior to Walsh’s retirement announcement, Townend had ridden Al Boum Photo to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup – a career first for Mullins – so had proved that he was capable of the job.
His achievements to date are four Irish Champion National Hunt Jockey titles (2010-2011; 2018-2019; 2019-2020 and 2021-2022), 24 wins at Cheltenham and over £11 million in winnings, both in Ireland and in the UK.
