Punchestown Festival 2026: Big Day For William Hill Ambassador Gavin Cromwell

William Hill News tipster Steve Mullington casts his expert eye over Wednesday’s action at the 2026 Punchestown Festival.

Punchestown Tips Wednesday:

  • 2.30 – Radiator Springs (E/W)
  • 3.05 – Grey Jude (E/W)
  • 3.40 – Minella Boss (WIN)
  • 4.15 – Fruit De Mer (E/W)
  • 4.50 – Boycetown (E/W)
  • 5.25 – Jesse Evans (E/W)
  • 6.05 – Inothewayurthinkin (WIN)
  • 6.35 – Tintara (WIN)

Taking centre stage on day two is the prestigious Punchestown Gold Cup, which is just one of five Graded races on the Wednesday card.

Our horse racing expert Steve Mullington will be guiding you through the Graded and Listed events this week, plus suggesting a WIN or EACH-WAY selection in all of the other supporting races.

4.15 – 3m Channor Group Novice Hurdle (Grade 1)

Second to Johnny’s Jury in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, FRUIT DE MER is the logical go to pick in this Novice Hurdle.

Henry De Bromhead’s six-year-old is sired by Pour Moi out of Yawl Bay, and should go onto even bigger and betting things in the long run. In the meantime, this Grade 1 has to be won.

4.50 – 2m½f Champion I.N.H. Flat Race (Grade 1)

Our racing ambassador Gavin Cromwell really fancies the chances of his runner BOYCETOWN in the NH Flat Race.

The five-year-old finished a fairly close three lengths fourth in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival, and a reproduction of that run should see the grey gelding go well here too.

Unlike some of his rivals in this, Boycetown has a fair few runs under his belt and can make his experience count.

5.25 – 2m4½f BMW Handicap Chase (Grade 3)

Described as a “dream horse” by owner Jack Singleton, JESSE EVANS is a winner on the Flat, over hurdles, and in chases.

Having finished second in his last three outings at Tipperary, Sligo, and Galway, the ten-year-old comes into this Grade 3 chase a fresh horse after being off since early October.

On a rating of 150, Noel Meade’s charge is an each-way play.

6.05 – 3m1f Punchestown Gold Cup (Grade 1)

Many pundits are focusing on the rematch between stablemates Gaelic Warrior and Fact To File, however the Gavin Cromwell-trained INOTHEWAYURTHINKIN (NAP) is a strong alternative pick for those looking beyond the Mullins duo.

After a challenging start to the season, the eight-year-old gelding was superb when coming third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and it could well be that he comes into his own in the spring months.

His preparation prior to the Cheltenham Gold Cup had been far from ideal with a heavy fall in the Irish Gold Cup coming after bring well beaten in the John Durkan and the Savills Chase, so his third placing was something to build upon in this Punchestown version of the cup.

6.35 – 2m½f EBF Mares INH Flat Race (Grade 3)

Purchased for £55,000 at the Cheltenham sale in early 2026. TINTARA (NB) can regain the winning thread in Wednesday’s lucky last.

After falling in her first two point-to-point starts, she has shown significant improvement by finishing second in both of her recent runs and she will attempt to dictate the tempo from the front once again.

She’s certainly worth a second look in our sports betting market.
