Cracksman is destined to go off the shortest of any of Royal Ascot’s 30 favourites at 4/7 to win the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, but he can top up his backers’ winnings by scoring by two lengths or more.

William Hill’s 2 Clear offer credits you with a 15% bonus up to £100 if the horse you back is victorious by two lengths or more in any 2 Clear race, of which the son of Frankel’s engagement is one.

The 1m2f Royal Ascot contest takes place at 4:20 on Day 2 of the meeting and looks to be an excellent opportunity for Cracksman to reassert his status as one of the best older horses in training, after a below par return to action when winning the Coronation Cup by just a short head at Epsom.

Frankie Dettori, onboard the John Gosden-trained superstar that afternoon, later suggested two excuses for his mount’s relatively tame showing: firstly a disdain for the courses downhill section that he had previously showed in the Derby and secondly that he banged his head on leaving the stalls.

Cracksman, 8lbs better than any of his Prince of Wales’s Stakes rivals on official ratings had won his previous four races by six lengths, three-and-a-half lengths, seven lengths and four lengths, with the most recent two successes coming at Group 1 level.

Of that quartet of victories, the one that came by the widest margin came at Ascot on Champions Day last year, when he beat the reopposing Poet’s Word over the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes’ 1m2f trip.

That the aforementioned Sir Michael Stoute runner (4/1 to win) is the only other runner in the betting offered at odds shorter than 10/1 highlights the likelihood that Cracksman can deliver the 15% bonus for 2 Clear backers.
