Copper Horse Stakes History
The Copper Horse Stakes is a prominent handicap race held annually on the opening day of Royal Ascot.
It is the final race on the Tuesday, covering a distance of 1 mile, 6 furlongs, and 34 yards – approximately 2,800 meters. Open to horses aged four and older, the race has quickly become a key target for stayers just below Group class, attracting competitive fields and showcasing emerging talents.
The 2024 edition saw Belloccio, trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by William Buick, clinch victory. This win marked Mullins’ second consecutive triumph in the race, following Vauban’s success in 2023.
