Sam Twiston-Davies’ William Hill blog: Our Power feels like a thorough stayer

William Hill ambassador Sam Twiston-Davies is set to ride Our Power in Saturday’s Grand National, and here the leading rider looks ahead to all his rides on days two and three of the Aintree Grand National Festival.

Friday, Aintree

I kick off my rides on Friday with Good Risk At All in the William Hill Handicap Hurdle (2.20pm). In an ideal world, we could do with a drop more rain, as he likes the ground to be on the softer side, but he ran well at Cheltenham last time where it paid to be handy, so I’ll try and do that here.

It’s obviously a very competitive race and plenty have chances, but I’d like to think my ride has a good each-way chance.

I’m on Bill Baxter in the Topham (4.05pm). He looks a really nice ride, and I was impressed with how he schooled over the National fences earlier in the week.

He’s been really progressive this season bar a mishap at Hereford and I’m hopeful he’ll run another good race here. He’s another who wouldn’t mind a bit of rain falling.

Weveallbeencaught goes in the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle (4.05pm). He hasn’t been at his best on his last two starts, but the owners were keen to run here, so we’re going to give it a go.

We’ve always thought he was a chaser in the making and we’re still very much of that belief, so anything he does over hurdles is a bit of a bonus. He’s very much one to look forward to over fences next season.

Saturday, Aintree

I’m really looking forward to riding Our Power in the Grand National (5.15pm).

I rode him to victory at Kempton last time and he felt like a thorough stayer that day and having watched the race back, I still feel that’s the case. You never know if they are going to stay but I’m very hopeful he will and if he does, he’ looks to have a great chance.

He schooled well over the National fences in Lambourn and I can’t wait to ride him. It’s the Grand National and you can never be too confident but I’m very hopeful he’ll run well. I don’t think too much about things like tactics because it’s a race that’s like no other and tactics can go out of the window after the first fence.
