Sam Twiston-Davies’ William Hill Blog: Never discount Master Chewy

William Hill ambassador Sam Twiston-Davies previews his rides at Sandown’s Jumps Finale meeting this weekend.
A look back at the 2024/25 season
It’s been a fantastic season—one I’ll always look back on with pride. The standout highlight has to be Potters Charm winning the Grade 1 at Aintree. That was an incredible day. It’s a bit of a shame not many people got to see it properly because it was so foggy, but for me, it was truly special.
I’ve been fortunate to ride a number of really exciting horses this year. East India Dock has been brilliant and it’s been a real pleasure teaming up with James Owen and the Gredley family. They’ve been great to work with and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.
I also want to give a huge thank you to all the trainers who’ve supported me this season. Special mentions to Anthony Honeyball, James Owen, and of course, my dad. Without their support, I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am right now.
With just a few days left, I’m sitting on 106 wins in the Jockeys’ Championship. At the start of the season the goal was to break 100, so to have gone past that and beaten last year’s tally feels great. I’m in a very lucky position and I’m very grateful for everyone who has helped me get to where I am right now.
The Trainers’ Championship battle between Dan Skelton and Willie Mullins has been brilliant to watch at the end of this season. It’s gone right down to the final day, which shows just how competitive it is. I think it’s great that ITV have shifted the races around to really spotlight this. Saturday at Sandown is shaping up to be something special and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
Saturday, Sandown
I kick off with Master Chewy (3.35pm) in the Grade 1 Celebration Chase, which is a very competitive race. He has had a very good season, so we see this as an opportunity to try and top it off by putting in a good performance in a strong race. He already has a Grade 2 Game Spirit win on his CV this season, so you can’t count him out at this level.
I then get the leg up on Spanish Harlem (4.10pm) for Willie Mullins in the Bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase. He went to take his chance in the Scottish National but got carried out reasonably early on in the race, he was traveling nicely up until that point. He should be fresh and well and hopefully has every chance off a nice light weight.
I round off the day with Push The Button (4.45pm) in the last. The owners were keen to go and have a go more than anything. I would imagine it’ll be fences for him early next season, so we can start to look forward to that.
