A fantastic evening of quality racing includes two Group 3 races – The Henry II Stakes and The Brigadier Gerard Stakes. Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington guides us through the entire card:
5.10 – 5f Handicap
Course and distance scorer KILLAVIA has to be on anyone’s shortlist after doing the business here last July.
The grey filly has actually run here, over this trip, a total of three times and has never finished worse than third.
5.42 – 5f Listed Stakes
We should be saying hiya to NAPA at the end of this Listed sprint on Thursday evening.
The Amo Racing-owned colt made virtually all at Newmarket 25 days ago, and could easily burn this lot off too.
6.12 – 2m Henry II Stakes (Group 3)
SWEET WIILIAM (NAP) absolutely thrives in his races over this distance and can take another scalp at Sandown – he is my NAPs table selection on Thursday evening.
In May 2024, he rallied in this very race patient to narrowly defeat Caius Chorister on soft ground. On Thursday he will get his perfect ground, so it is easy to see why he is trading at as little as even money in our horse racing betting market.
6.42 – 1m Listed Heron Stakes
Unbeaten this year and ridden by Ryan Moore for the Shadwell Estate, YAZIN (NB) is extremely progressive and highly rated.
Connections are keen to step up to the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot if he runs well here.
7.12 – 1m2f Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Group 3)
The world-class OMBUDSMAN, trained by John and Thady Gosden for Godolphin, will use this contest as a vital prep run for Royal Ascot.
Currently sitting on an official rating of 128, this certainly cements him as one of the top middle-distance horses in training globally.
A triple Group 1 winner, his career highlights include victories in the Juddmonte at York and the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. On all known form, it’ll take a good one to beat him.
7.45 – 1m Handicap
Trained by Roger Varian, whose stable has a massive 38% strike-rate at Sandown with horses aged four and older, RAAMMEE can take the spoils in this one mile handicap.
Last seen producing a dominant 12-length victory at Newcastle, you would like to think that his first time in a handicap will be a relative breeze, and at odds of 8/11 in our sports betting, his price totally reflects that fact.
8.20 – 1m Handicap
At a price TRIO is worth a speculative punt in the lucky last on Brigadier Gerard Evening.
Favourably weighted off just 9st, Eve Johnson Houghton’s filly had a nice warm-up at Kempton behind Blues And Royals, and a good run is expected on her return to the turf.
