Scottish Grand National 2026: Irish Raider (Not That One) To Take Top Prize

Ayr Scottish Grand National

Just one week on from the Grand National at Aintree, we have yet another National taking place. This time it’s the Scottish version at Ayr Racecourse.

The race is run over a course four miles long, with 27 jumps, and is one of the toughest tests for horses and jockeys in the British Isles.

Scottish Grand National 1-2-3-4-5 Prediction:

  1. Promontory
  2. Chasingouttheblues
  3. Kim Roque
  4. Road To Home
  5. Git Maker

Here is your runner-by-runner guide to this year’s race, courtesy of William Hill News tipster Steve Mullington:

Blaze The Way

The top-weight was last seen running down the field in the Ultima Chase at Cheltenham. Has plenty of work to do with such a burden to carry.

Quebecois

High class novice chaser who was bang up there in the Ultima Chase. Chances of being on the podium are extremely high.

King Of Answers

Ran a decent race in the National Hunt Challenge Cup Novices’ Chase at the Festival and represents a local yard.

Isaac Des Obeaux

Landed the Midlands National a month ago and will not be found wanting for stamina. Big player.

Our Power

Has plenty of experience in big race handicaps and finished third in this race last year to Captain Cody.

Road To Home

The one and only hope of Willie Mullins this year and son Patrick rides. Can build upon his Kim Muir effort.

Herakles Westwood

A solid jumper but will have to prove he stays this marathon trip.

Ask Brewster

Won the Kim Muir at The Festival and would be a welcome distraction for the stable.

Katate Dori

Progressive type who could well spring up at large odds in our market for this race.

Stolen Silver

Veteran performer who will probably struggle to stay out this trip.

Famous Bridge

Loves testing ground and will be hoping for a downpour or two on Saturday. He’s badly out of form however.

Montregard

Appears to save his best for Ascot but may well thrive here too over a much longer trip.

Maximillian

Underwent wind surgery on March 9th and may well outrun his large odds.

Gabbys Cross

Ridden by the champion jockey elect. The veteran unseated in the 2023 Aintree National.

Kim Roque

The current favourite in our sports betting and he was a shrewd purchase from France for Joseph O’Brien.

Collectors Item

Winner of the Somerset National in 2025 but this is a different kettle of fish.

Git Maker

Solid yardstick for the stable and was second in last season’s Kim Muir.

Kap Vert

Youngest horse in the field who despite being in form, has never gone over this kind of distance.

Promontory

Took the Dublin Chase at the start of March and races in the famous Malcolm Denmark colours.

Chasingouttheblues

Has been in top form since Christmas and is favourably treated in the weights.

Magna Sam

Former point-to-pointer who isn’t quite the force of old these days.
