St Leger Antepost Tips 2026: Who Wins Doncaster Classic Following Entries?

The initial entries for the 250th St Leger have been revealed, with Aidan O’Brien and Joseph O’Brien responsible for 14 of the 27 horses currently entered for the oldest Classic in the United Kingdom.

The 1m6½f contest will take place at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday, September 12.

The final declarations and rider bookings will be confirmed on Thursday, September 10, but before then many of the contenders in the above list will run in prep races, with the most significant one being the stamina test that the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York can provide.

Aidan O’Brien will be chasing down a fourth consecutive victory in the St Leger having already secured the race on nine previous occasions, with his main hope being Christmas Day.

The Derby winner is among the leading contenders in our ante-post horse racing betting, with the colt could first putting his Doncaster credentials to the test in next week’s Great Voltigeur Stakes on the Knavesmire.

Christmas Day’s closest challenger at Epsom was the William Haggas-trained Maltese Cross, who has since gone on to land the Group One Grand Prix de Paris. The Sea The Stars-colt is also vying for favouritism at the head of the sports betting.

Getting back to Aidan O’Brien, and his Benvenuto Cellini, who finished third in the King George at Ascot last time out, is another leading entry, as is Pierre Bonnard who finished third in the Irish Derby.

Son Joseph’s entries have to be taken seriously too, with Enceladus looking particularly interesting after an unbeaten campaign so far. He followed up his King George Stakes victory at Royal Ascot by winning the Gordon Stakes, so will head to Town Moor with plenty of positive winds running through his sails.
