St Leger Antepost Tips & Predictions (2025)

St Leger

The St Leger is the world’s oldest Classic and is the highlight of Doncaster’s four-day festival that dominates the UK Flat racing calendar in the month of September.

Who Are The 2025 Hopefuls?

There are 26 horses entered for the Doncaster St Leger, which will be held on September 13th 2025.

Goodwood Cup winner Scandinavia (5/4) headlines Ballydoyle’s eleven entries, and the betting, for the Group 1 Classic.

By Justify, the Aidan O’Brien three-year-old ran fifth to Carmers (12/1) in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot, but bounced back to claim the Bahrain Trophy Stakes at Newmarket, prior to his Goodwood victory.

Lambourn (5/2), winner of the Derby and the Irish Derby, is also entered, as is Nassau Stakes heroine Whirl (16/1), and double Oaks scorer Minnie Hauk (16/1).

Stay True (16/1), who hasn’t been seen out since finishing second in the William Hill Lingfield Derby Trial Stakes at Lingfield in May, is an interesting dark horse should he be back to full health.

Lazy Griff (5/1), who was second at Epsom and third at the Curragh to Lambourn, represents trainer Charlie Johnston and Middleham Park Racing.

His syndicate owners believe the added distance of the St Leger could be key in finally swinging the pendulum in their favour next month.

Trainer Joseph O’Brien sends over Tennessee Stud (14/1), who was third in the Blue Riband and fourth in the Irish Derby.

William Haggas still has Arabian Force in the Doncaster showpiece. The Lope de Vega-colt was beaten seven lengths in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot, but put in a better show in a Listed affair at Hamilton.

Gordon Stakes runner-up Wimbledon Hawkeye (20/1), trained by James Owen, won’t have Merchant to worry about this time as that horse hasn’t been entered.

The Kameko-colt is much better value than his two victories to date suggest, and he thoroughly deserves a change of luck on the big stage.

Ed Walker’s Qilin Queen (20/1) can arrive at Doncaster with a fighting chance of success.

Following a disappointing effort in the Oaks, this daughter of Pinatubo showed she was a battler under Kieran Shoemark, when she saw off Sunly by a neck in the Group 2 Prix de Malleret at ParisLongchamp. She’s well worth this step up in grade.

Ralph Beckett’s Pinhole (20/1) is another entry worth of a mention. He wasn’t beaten far in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot, then returned to the same venue and won over a slightly shorter trip. He’s currently a very generous price in our horse racing odds.

St Leger Antepost Selection: Wimbledon Hawkeye (20/1, E/W)
