Wetherby Tips: Best Bets On Friday 31st October 2025
The highlight fixture in Wetherby’s season features two-Claas 1 races on the Friday and the £100,000 Charlie Hall Steeplechase on Saturday.
The Charlie Hall Chase is widely regarded as the first major staying chase of the National Hunt season in Britain.
12.47pm – 2m3½f Beginners’ Chase (Class 3) (4yo+)
After leaving Gordon Elliott’s yard, THE FOUR SIXES ran his first three races for Olly Murphy, here at Wetherby.
However, his last visit to the course wasn’t so fruitful, when he unseated in a 3m chase over the Christmas holidays.
He did go on to end the season on a high though, registering victories at both Bangor and Ayr. A blemish free round will make him hard to beat today.
1.17pm – 2m3½f Maiden Hurdle (Class 3) (4yo+)
Irish p-t-p scorer, BALLYLICKY BAY is a very interesting mare in the context of this race.
She was last seen winning a bumper at Bangor, and she goes hurdling for the first time today. Order Of St George progeny are doing very well in the NH sphere, and she can be competitive in this small field.
1.47pm – 2m3½f Handicap Hurdle (3yo+ 0-130)
Sue Smith and Joel Parkinson usually arrive at Wetherby with tuned up horses, and GLEN ROAD can take top honours in this handicap hurdle.
The six-year-old was in fine form last season, and underwent wind surgery a month ago. He is the logical pick in this hurdle.
2.20pm – 2m Wensleydale Juvenile Hurdle (Listed Race)
The James Owen-trained AMMES (NAP) has been a seamless convert to the jumping game, and has positively scooted home in his last two runs.
This race is another step forward, but he should continue his upward trajectory. The booking of Sean Bowen is another positive too.
2.55pm – 2m3½f Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (Class 1) (4yo+)
The feature chase of the afternoon can go the way of the Ann Hamiton-trained TOMMY’S OSCAR.
The ten-year-old has been a grand servant to his small yard, winning 12 of his 32 starts, and he even ran in the Champion Hurdle of 2022.
He had a nice prep at Kelso at the start of the month, and will strip fitter for that outing.
3.30pm – 2m5½f Handicap Hurdle (Div I) (Class 5)
Jo Foster’s GUSTAVO GOODWAY lost his way a little whilst at Philip Rothwell’s in Ireland, but now finds himself based in the Yorkshire Dales with a new training regime.
A winner back in April over a similar trip, this 96-rated hurdler is well worth an each-way interest.
4.05pm – 2m5½f Handicap Hurdle (Div II) (Class 5)
Micky Hammond is a trainer to keep an eye on at Wetherby, and his SEEYAINTHESUNINN catches my attention, running in a handicap for the first time.
Don’t let his previous odds of 200/1 x 80/1 x 200/1 put you off in the slightest, as we are well aware of the strategies involved before a horse is given it’s handicap mark.
A rating of 93 looks very fair and Ryan Mania is a decent jockey to have onboard.
