Staged on the third day of the York Ebor Meeting in August, the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes, which is run over 5f, always attracts the fastest sprinters from all corners of the globe.

Check out Steve Mullington’s tips on every race on Day 3 at the York Ebor Festival

Here, I look at all 17 declared runners ahead of Friday’s feature race. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get straight to it.

The 2025 Nunthorpe Stakes Contenders:

Jm Jungle (John & Sean Quinn)

Popular local handicapper who stepped up to Group 2 level in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. One suspects however that the weather played a big part in that highly surprising result and that it will be difficult to replicate it here.

Kerdos (Clive Cox)

Terribly out of form this season and needs somewhat of a miracle to turn back the clock to his last victory, which was in Haydock’s Temple Stakes (2024).

Manaccan (John Ryan)

It will take a leap of faith to even entertain this runner in the betting. Simply cannot win.

Night Raider (Karl Burke)

Third in the Clipper Stakes here in May and needs to reproduce that run to be competitive again.

Rumstar (Jonathan Portman)

Took the Sprint Stakes at Sandown in July and can be a little pocket rocket on his day.

Spartan Arrow (Archie Watson)

Landed the Listed Prix Hampton at Chantilly in June, but this is a very different kettle of fish.

Washington Heights (Kevin Ryan)

Came to hand in the City Walls Stakes here last month and is a very dangerous floater in the online betting.

Ain’t Nobody (Kevin Ryan)

Hasn’t shown enough to look like an obvious winner waiting in the wings.

Arizona Blaze (Adrian Murray)

Sprinting like a good thing in recent weeks, landing the recent Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh. One of the main contenders.

Asfoora (Henry Dwyer)

Australian sprint queen who could easily blast this lot away if she’s on her A-game.

Frost At Dawn (William Knight)

Highly consistent in good company this season and ranks as a lively outsider in this feature.

Mgheera (Ed Walker)

Exciting mare who showed a great turn of foot to land Haydock’s Temple Stakes earlier in the season. Looks a tad overpriced at double figure odds.

She’s Quality (Jack Davison)

A run of seconds in high quality sprints this season surely has to come to an end. Perhaps today?

Celandine (Ed Walker)

Finished a nice third in the Summer Stakes here earlier in the year, but needs to step up another level.

Sayidah Dariyan (Richard Hughes)

Ran fourth in the Commonwealth Cup, then was victorious in the Summer Stakes last month. One of the leading lights today.

Lady Iman (Ger Lyons)

Totally bossed the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and she is a worthy favourite in horse racing betting markets for this sprint.

Spicy Marg (Michael Bell)

Won the Alice Keppel Fillies’ contest at Goodwood and deserves her place in this line up.

Nunthorpe Stakes selection: Washington Heights (18/1) each way.
