How To Bet On Curling At The Winter Olympics
To the untrained eye, it may look like a group of people sliding up and down an ice rink, chasing a large round stone with a broom, but there is much more to the sport of curling than you could ever imagine.
A Brief History of Olympic Curling
Curling debuted as an Olympic sport at the 1924 Games in Chamonix with a men’s competition but from 1928–1994 was not included in the Olympic programme.
It officially returned at the Nagano Games in 1998, featuring both men’s and women’s events. An additional mixed doubles event was introduced at PyeongChang in 2018.
How The Olympic Curling And Scoring Works
A match consists of 10 rounds, or “ends.”, almost akin to Flat Green Bowls- but on ice! Each team plays eight stones per end and the final score is calculated when all 16 stones have been thrown.
A team can have one or more stones close to the “button” (centre) of the “house,” thus scoring one or more points for each particular end.
The team with the most points at the conclusion of the final end wins. In the event of a tie, an extra end is always played to determine the winner.
In the mixed doubles event, there are eight ends and each team can deliver five stones per end.
