Jan Brueghel slashed for Coronation Cup whilst Calandagan drifts
Jan Brueghel has been slashed to 5/4 to retain the Coronation Cup at Epsom on Saturday, while Calandagan has been pushed out to 7/4.
Amid doubts about whether Calandagan will run this weekend due to heavy rainfall, the World’s Best Racehorse has eased to 7/4 in the betting, while reigning Coronation Cup champion Jan Brueghel has leapfrogged his closest rival to make it back-to-back wins in the race.
Jan Brueghel – 5/4
Calandagan – 7/4
Lambourn – 9/2
Convergent – 5/1
BAR – 14/1
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “With reports of Calandagan’s participation not guaranteed in Saturday’s Coronation Cup, Jan Brueghel has shortened markedly to make it consecutive victories in the race.
“Whilst the rain descended on Epsom yesterday, we were laying plenty at 3/1 and 5/2 for the Ballydoyle inmate to retain his Coronation crown. Now, with the Aga Khan star not 100% to turn up at the Downs, we’ve had no choice but to cut Jan Brueghel to 5/4, which is still proving popular, and have pushed Calandagan out to 7/4.
“It’s likely Jan Brueghel would be a short-priced favourite if the Champion Stakes winner doesn’t turn up, so any odds against about him could look very attractive come post time.”
