Who will win the Royal Rumble? Five outsiders to bet on

Seth Rollins and Charlotte Flair are odds-on Royal Rumble betting favourites at 4/5 and 8/15 respectively, with both seemingly pencilled in for WrestleMania title fights.

However, they don’t have to win the Rumble to main event Mania. The two-title setup frees the WWE to pick a surprise winner (Alberto Del Rio in 2011, Sheamus in 2012 and Shinsuke Nakamura in 2018) whose championship encounter winds up being earlier in the card.

Who should you back if you’re looking for a Royal Rumble betting outsider? Here are five to consider…

Kevin Owens @ 25/1

The men’s Royal Rumble was won by a surprise returnee in three of the last 11 years. Kevin Owens is the best fit to make it four in 12.

He’s versatile too, with his sympathetic write-off – having spent his entire WWE career as a villain – leaving it open for him to face Brock Lesnar or Daniel Bryan as a fan favourite.

He’s never met either one-on-one on WWE TV before.

Mustafa Ali @ 66/1

Assuming he successfully defends the WWE Title against AJ Styles, it’s unclear who’d be left for the new Daniel Bryan to face at WrestleMania.

How about the closest thing on the roster to the old Daniel Bryan?

Mustafa Ali made his Smackdown debut against the champ, pinned him a fortnight later and has been featured against upper-card talent exclusively ever since.

Kofi Kingston @ 100/1

Only one wrestler on the planet is a staple of the Royal Rumble match: Kofi Kingston, who finds an improbable method of avoiding elimination annually. One year it has to pay off with victory.

Kofi’s New Day group would be ideal adversaries for Bryan, whose environmentalist shtick involves ranting about merchandise peddling and food waste, two of their specialities.

Ember Moon @ 20/1

It’s assumed that Flair or Becky Lynch will win the women’s Rumble to set a WrestleMania triple threat with Ronda Rousey up, but what if the Rumble is used to build a challenger for the other brand’s title?

Despite being underutilised since her main roster debut last year, Ember Moon has been protected, winning 11 of her 16 one-on-one matches.

Her history with Smackdown champion Asuka, who she never defeated in NXT, offers a storyline justification for a brand switch too.

Despite odds of 20/1 rendering her joint-fifth favourite, only two of the four shorter in the betting are actually confirmed to contest the 30-woman showpiece.

Bayley @ 50/1

Bayley’s an outsider due to the belief that her immediate future lies in the tag division.

However, another route to an overdue feud with Sasha Banks could be if the Boss upsets Rousey in their title bout and Bayley wins the Rumble to earn a shot at her best friend.

As with the Moon scenario, this would free up Lynch, Flair and Rousey to do their thing on the other brand.
