Top 5 MMA Fighters of All Time

| BY News Team

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has evolved from a niche combat sport into a global phenomenon, producing some of the most iconic athletes in the world.

While ranking fighters across different eras and weight classes can be difficult, let alone subjective, a few names consistently stand. Here’s a look at the top five MMA fighters of all time.

If you’re into combat sports, check out our blog on the UFC Calendar & Fight Nights 2025

Georges St-Pierre (GSP)

Georges St-Pierre is often considered the gold standard of MMA. The Canadian welterweight champion dominated his division with a mix of elite wrestling, pinpoint striking, and strategic fight IQ. With a professional record of 26–2, GSP reigned as the UFC Welterweight Champion for several years and returned from a four-year hiatus to win the Middleweight title in 2017. His ability to adapt to different opponents and evolve his game over time makes him a true all-time great.

Jon Jones

Love him or hate him, Jon “Bones” Jones is arguably the most talented fighter the sport has ever seen. Debuting in the UFC at just 21, Jones quickly became the youngest champion in UFC history. With wins over legends like Daniel Cormier, Lyoto Machida, and Mauricio Rua, Jones has remained undefeated in the eyes of many (his only official loss came via a controversial disqualification). His unorthodox striking, wrestling, and reach advantage have made him a nightmare matchup for every opponent.

Anderson Silva

Anderson “The Spider” Silva changed the way fans viewed striking in MMA. Holding the longest title reign in UFC history (2,457 days) and ten successful middleweight title defences, Silva was nearly untouchable during his prime. His ability to finish fights with precise strikes, often while making opponents miss wildly, set his legacy. Though his later career saw some losses, Silva’s prime run remains one of the most dominant in MMA history.

Fedor Emelianenko

Before the UFC became the dominant promotion, Fedor Emelianenko was the most feared heavyweight in the world. The Russian powerhouse went undefeated for nearly a decade, defeating top-tier opponents in PRIDE FC like Mirko Cro Cop, Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Mark Coleman. Despite never fighting in the UFC, Fedor’s aura of invincibility and demeanour turned him into a living legend. His knockout power, sambo skills, and resilience made him dominate the cage, setting the standard for heavyweight greatness.

Khabib Nurmagomedov

Khabib retired undefeated at 29–0, a rarity in MMA. The Dagestani fighter built his legacy on relentless grappling pressure and ground control, resulting in dominant wins over top fighters like Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje. His ability to neutralise elite strikers with ease and his emotional retirement following the death of his father only added to his mythical status. Khabib’s perfect record and dominance in one of the UFC’s toughest divisions secure his place among the all-time greats.
