UFC London Predictions and Odds: Evloev fancied over Murphy

| BY News Team

UFC London’s main event at the O2 pits two unbeaten featherweights against each other in a genuine title eliminator: Movsar Evloev vs Lerone Murphy.

Evloev is the clear favourite at 2/5, with Murphy a live but very much underdog-looking 19/10, while the method market leans toward Evloev by decision at 4/5.

Why the fight matters

The winner almost certainly becomes the next man in line at featherweight, which gives this bout a far bigger feel than a regular Fight Night main event. Between them, Evloev and Murphy bring a combined unbeaten record of 36 wins, 0 losses and 1 draw, a rare matchup at the elite level and one that has been touted as one of the most significant featherweight contests in recent memory.

Evloev’s route to victory

Evloev’s game is built around wrestling volume, positional control and sustained pace. He lands 3.99 significant strikes per minute, averages 4.67 takedowns per 15 minutes and has never been finished in the UFC, with all nine of his UFC wins coming by decision. The numbers suggest a familiar pattern: pressure, clinch work, mat control and enough output to bank rounds without taking unnecessary risks.

There is a small question mark over whether he is as dominant against a sharp, mobile striker as he is against more traditional wrestleboxers, but the market confidence is clear. If Evloev gets into top position early and often, Murphy may spend too much time defending to build an offensive rhythm.

Murphy’s path to an upset

Murphy enters with momentum after his spinning back elbow finish of Aaron Pico and has a compact, efficient striking style that can trouble anyone at 145 pounds. He lands 4.48 significant strikes per minute at 53% accuracy, gives up just 2.51 per minute and sports a 61% striking defence, all of which point to a fighter who is hard to hit cleanly for long stretches.

The big issue is wrestling. Murphy’s takedown defence is listed at 51%, which is solid but not elite, and that could be the deciding factor if Evloev chains attempts across 25 minutes. His best route is probably to stay upright, make Evloev pay at range and turn the fight into a slower technical kickboxing match.

Movsar vs Evloev latest odds:

Bout betting

  • Movsar Evloev – 2/5
  • Lerone Murphy – 19/10

Method of result

  • Movsar Evloev by KO/TKO/DQ or Submission – 7/2
  • Movsar Evloev by Decision – 4/5
  • Lerone Murphy by KO/TKO/DQ or Submission – 13/2
  • Lerone Murphy by Decision – 3/1

*Odds accurate at time of writing.

The market makes Evloev the stronger side overall, but not an untouchable one. Recent sharp preview pieces have even argued the line is a little wide, noting Murphy’s live dog profile and Evloev’s tendency to go the distance.

Prediction

Evloev’s wrestling, pressure and five round discipline should be enough to edge a competitive main event. Murphy has the striking and composure to make him work, but over 25 minutes Evloev’s control looks likelier to win the judges’ favour.

Prediction: Movsar Evloev by decision. The most attractive angle is Evloev by decision at 4/5, which matches the most likely shape of the fight.
