The Mercedes have yet again been imperious this year, with Lewis Hamilton surpassing Michael Schumacher’s record for race wins and achieving an impressive 13 pole positions and 11 wins so far this season. The team has already won its seventh consecutive Constructors Championship and look primed to add to its silverware this week, with Hamilton the 2/5 favourite with teammate Valtteri Bottas second favourite at 7/2.
Competition for places
With the battle at the top a forgone conclusion for much of the season and with the Mercedes usually leading Max Verstappen on a merry dance, plenty of attention has focused on a riveting midfield battle, which Ferrari has been dragged into.
The Renaults, McLarens and Racing Points have all enjoyed great races, while Red Bull’s second driver Alex Albon more often than not caught fighting for low points positions than podiums.
While Verstappen looks the obvious choice for a podium finish at 4/11, both Sergio Perez at 7/2 and Daniel Ricciardo at 11/4 will be looking to put themselves at the business end of the race. Ricciardo has already recorded two podiums this season, with Perez looking to go one better than his season best of fourth.
Another tough time for Haas?
While Haas may have had ideas of joining the midfield battle, they have certainly regressed this year, with both Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen having poor seasons. While Grosjean is usually regarded as the more erratic driver, this year has seen Magnussen comfortably outperform his teammate in retirements, with the Dane having six retirements to the Frenchman’s lone early exit. This weekend gives fresh opportunities for the team, but at 4/1 to experience the first retirement, it could be another long weekend for Guenther Steiner and co.
