Kamala Harris halves in price to become next President

Kamala Harris has seen her odds of becoming the next President of the United States slashed with William Hill, with her decision against running for Governor of California seemingly opening the door to another bid for the presidency in 2028.

Harris was a major outsider in the market at 50/1 yesterday but since her decision not to run to replace current Governor of California Gavin Newsom, she has shortened into 25/1 to replace Donald Trump in the Oval Office.

Despite Harris’ double-figure odds, she is one of the leading bookmaker’s worst results in their Next President market, behind Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has been backed into 9/1 from 50/1 last year, Ivanka Trump (25/1) and JD Vance (5/2).

Vance remains the favourite to be the next POTUS at 5/2, ahead of current President, Donald Trump, at 8/1.

Becerra and Villaraigosa vie for next Governor of California favouritism

After Harris ruled herself out of the race to be the next Governor of California, former United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra, and former Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, are 3/1 joint favourites to replace Newsom.

Current Lieutenant Governor of California, Eleni Kounalakis, is also in the running at 7/2, as is former Democrat House of Representatives member Katie Porter (7/2).

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “With Kamala Harris effectively ruling herself out of the running to become the next Governor of California, we think she could have her eyes on the 2028 presidential election.

“Harris is currently our fourth worst result in our Next President market and after her latest career update, we’ve slashed her odds accordingly to 25/1 from 50/1.

“Harris isn’t the only Democrat that has been popular in the market, with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez consistently attracting support since the end of last year – when she was priced at 50/1 – so much so that she is the worst result in our book and is now 9/1, third favourite behind JD Vance (5/2) and Donald Trump Sr. (8/1).”
