Long Distance Cup Odds: Gregory backed to end Wathnan Group 1 drought
Gregory is William Hill’s best-backed horse ahead of British Champions Day, with punters backing the Gosdens’ stayer to deliver Wathnan Racing their first UK Group 1 success.
Gregory has attracted significant support since declarations and is now priced at 10/3 for the Long Distance Cup, with St Leger winner Highwayman just in front at 3/1.
Caballo De Mar has drifted to 4/1 following a tough outing in the Prix du Cadran just two weeks ago, with concerns over whether that effort could affect his chances at Ascot.
Elsewhere on the card, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is shaping up to be a close contest between Gstaad and Talk Of New York, while Ten Bob Tony is another to watch after previously winning the Queen Anne Stakes.
Long Distance Cup betting:
Highwayman – 3/1
Gregory – 10/3
Caballo De Mar – 4/1
BAR – 17/2

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Gregory is our best backed horse on Champions Day. He’s been the subject of major support since declarations as it seems punters think Wathnan will finally break their UK Group 1 duck this year.
“Gregory is now 10/3, close behind with Leger hero Highwayman at 3/1, with Caballo De Mar sliding out to 4/1. George Scott’s stayer had a tough race in the Cadran just two weeks ago and those exertions might scupper his chances here.
“Elsewhere, the QEII looks a belter. It looks like being a ding-dong battle between Gstaad and Talk Of New York as to which will go off favourite, but we’re keeping more than half an eye on Ten Bob Tony. He stung us when winning the Queen Anne and is always a popular pick with punters.”
