Super League Round 5 preview: Marshall to touch down on return for Wigan

| BY News Team

The 2024 Super League season is in full flow as we approach the fifth round of fixtures.

Three teams still remain winless whilst only one has made a perfect start, will any of their fates change, or are patterns beginning to emerge that could paint the picture for how the rest of the season will play out?

This week brings some interesting clashes towards the top of the table, with unbeaten records on the line and a selection of Old Trafford hopefuls going head-to-head.

We preview two key fixtures below.

Bet on Rugby League at William Hill

Salford Red Devils v Wigan Warriors, Thursday 20:00

Both of these sides have begun the 2024 Super League season in impressive fashion, with Wigan being the only side remaining with a 100% record so far, winning all three of their opening fixtures.

Salford have played one more, winning three and losing one, with their defeat coming at the hands of Leeds Rhinos in the opening round. Since then, the Red Devils have scored some notable victories, none more so than their triumph away at St Helens last weekend, taking advantage of a Saints red card to win the game by a four-point margin.

Wigan will be all too aware of that result but, as the 2/9 favourites, will be confident of maintaining their unbeaten record. The return of the league’s second-top try scorer, Liam Marshall, will certainly be a boost – we’re siding with Wigan Warriors To Win, David Nofoaluma & Liam Marshall Both To Score A Try at 11/2.

Leeds Rhinos v St Helens, Friday 20:00

These are another two sides whose Super League seasons have started positively, with both having won three of their opening four games so far. St Helens, however, will be frustrated by their loss to Salford last week, but Mark Percival’s sending off provides a fair excuse.

A return to winning ways is certainly on the cards here as they head to Headingly as the 8/15 favourites, but this rejuvenated Rhinos side won’t be a pushover on their home patch.

Having finished a disappointing eighth last year, a host of new, exciting names has seen the Rhinos head into 2024 as one of the most feared sides in the league. Ash Handley is one of the old guard and he has impressed so far this season, touching down seven times already, making it no surprise that he is a 6/5-shot to go over against the Saints on Friday night.

Leeds have won two on the bounce since their round two loss to Hull KR and will be more than confident in overturning their 8/5 underdog status. With Enhanced Odds of 4/1, Ash Handley & Tommy Makinson Both To Score A Try looks to be the play here.
