The European Rugby Champions Cup fixtures are coming thick and fast at the moment as the pool stages enter the final few games. Most pools are nicely poised, and we preview some key fixtures from round four of Europe’s premier club competition.
Harlequins vs Ulster
Harlequins experienced heartbreak in the reverse of this fixture last time out, conceding points very late in the day to lose. Quins will be extremely confident at the Stoop though, and their young, exciting team already has an impressive highlight reel of counter-attacking tries. Ulster have some incredibly talented players, not least Jacob Stockdale, so this game could be filled with attacking fireworks.
Quins are home underdogs, while the visiting Ulster are 8/15. However, despite Ulster’s performances in recent weeks, this could be another famous European occasion in south-west London as Quins look to make a statement in Europe’s top cup competition, and they offer good value at 8/5.
Connacht vs Gloucester
While this could be a tight fixture, the Cherry and Whites have the talent to unlock the most stringent of defences and with the benefit of the handicap (+3), Gloucester look well worth backing at 10/11.
Clermont vs Bath
Clermont dismantled Bath at the Rec last time out in poor conditions and now the English side have to travel to France with that heavy defeat hanging over them. Clermont’s star-studded team are starting to hit their stride, with winger Alivereti Raka contuning to add to his legacy as one of the most destructive wingers in the world.
Bath will need to dig deep here, but it could be a long journey back to the west of England. They are 9/1 to win away, while Clermont are just 1/25 for a home win. The handicap sits at -22 in favour of Clermont, and they should win this by more than three scores. Back the home side on the handicap at 10/11.
